Petit Futé's opinion on MAISON DU MARAIS POITEVIN

Vintage plate 2020

The Maison du Marais Poitevin is housed in a beautiful 16th century building, completely restored, bearing the name of "Maison de la Coutume" (House of Custom) built on the port of Coulon. This ecomuseum offers an overview as representative as possible of the various facets of the Marais Poitevin. Thanks to the rooms of the permanent exhibition, you will learn all about the shipping industry and the life and fishing of eels will no longer hold any secrets for you. You will even discover the interior of a traditional market gardener's house. Children (and adults) will be delighted to enjoy additional information provided by an animator. Upstairs, a cinema session is offered with "le Maraiscope" which, using a 15m² model and lighting effects, tells you the history of the Marais Poitevin in a playful way. Temporary exhibitions are proposed at the end of the visit to shed light on other aspects of the marsh. On your way back, don't forget to visit the souvenir shop. You will find many regional products there.
