This museum belongs to the network of the national museum of the Navy, the former school of naval medicine, and has teaching rooms, a large scientific library and a set of anatomical, zoological, botanical and ethnographic collections. We recommend guided tours, which will allow you to understand the history of naval medicine, its link with the city of Rochefort, and the gems hidden in these collections.

Opening time and information on OLD NAVAL MEDICAL SCHOOL

Closed at the end of August. Low season: open Wednesday to Monday, 10am to 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 5pm. High season: daily from 10am to 12:30pm and from 1:30pm to 5pm. Free admission for children under 26. Adults: €8 (€12 for 1h30 guided tour). Children: €6 (€8 for 1h30 guided tour). Tours are guided (1h30). 2, 3 and 4 pm: l'Essentielle tour (40 min.). Full price: €6.50, concessions: €5.5. Possibility of a twin ticket with the Musée de la Marine. Reservations strongly recommended. Chèque Vacances.

un lieu historique, fort, émouvant, pratiquement inchangé depuis le XXI e siècle. Des centaines de livres, de cartes, de planches anatomiques, d'instruments de chirurgie parfois barbares , de cranes annotés comme ceux des condamnés à mort décapités ou d'abrutis notoires .... Unique en Europe, un peu dur pour des enfants

Visite guidée captivante aux origines de la chirurgie moderne et dans une époque de (sombre) gloire de la Marine française et de Rochefort. Notez bien que, oui, c'est bien à Rochefort, et pas à Montpellier comme on l'entend là-bas, que la chirurgie est devenue une discipline médicale à part entière en France !
