THE CLOISTER OF THE CARMELITES
The Carmes cloister, which became a prison until 1947, is part of the guided tour of Jonzac.
Little remains of the original monument. Sold as national property, the church was used as a court house, while the cloister was used as a prison until 1947. The convent was restored in 1976 before becoming a cultural center. It now houses the "Micro Folie" digital museum. The convent has undergone a new restoration campaign, including the complete restitution of the ambulatory, and has been made accessible to the public. Every Thursday at 6.30pm in July and August, a lecture is given by historians, geographers and specialists.
