FLAVOUR CASTLE
Castle being half fortified castle and half castle of pleasure, provided with moats in water, stone drawbridges and pretty towers
The exterior of this 14th and 16th century château is worth a visit. Part fortified castle, part pleasure castle, it is privately owned and listed on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments. Its majestic appearance is enhanced by a vast moat, stone bridges and two magnificent towers. But the château is more than just a defensive structure equipped with loopholes and machicolations: mullioned windows, elegant dormer windows and sculptures adorned with mythological subjects bear witness to the refinement of the Renaissance. The 19th century left its mark, including the chapel (open to visitors). In the 17th century, the building belonged to Viscount de Turenne, Marshal of France and a pillar of the army of Louis XIII, then Louis XIV.
