Its construction was completed in 1693, on the remains of the Maison des kings de Navarra, built in 1680. The imposing building of 590 m 2 on the ground surrounds a rectangular courtyard of 245 m 2. Its real role was the storage of arms, ammunition and food from Navarrenx, but also from Béarn. In the courtyard, 30 000 bullets or grenades were stored, 60 drill or mortars, and 150 000 bullets. Restored by the municipality, it is today, the cultural and tourist centre of the city.
