NOTRE-DAME ABBEY
Abbey, founded in 780 by Charlemagne, with a remarkable tower in Nanteuil, exhibition dedicated to the lapidary on the spot.
Of the remains of this abbey, founded in the Carolingian era, we can still admire "Le Trésor Roman", an 11th/12th-century square tower decorated with fine Romanesque arcades, which served as a repository for archives and precious objects. Also worthy of note is "Les Grands Greniers", a 12th- and 13th-century longitudinal building some 100 m long that would have served as the abbey's guesthouse. Excavations carried out between 2011 and 2017 have brought this heritage to the fore and brought to light the remains of the abbey church; a small museum retraces the discoveries.
