ST. PETER'S CHURCH
Church of the Priory of Saint-Pierre, with a rectangular nave and a façade copying that of the abbey of Châtres
The church of St Peter's Priory dates from the 8th century and was occupied by Benedictines from the end of the 11th century. The nave is rectangular and is divided into three bays. The style was changed from pre-Romanesque to Romanesque, the bell tower is raised by one floor, and the crypt is built under the choir. In the 13th century, the Gothic style appears, and a square crypt and a chevet choir take the place of the old ones that were demolished. Protestants set fire to the church in the 16th century, but it was later rebuilt. The facade is a copy of that of the Abbey of Châtres in Saint-Brice.
The choir, the bell tower and the crypt are listed as Historic Monuments. It should be noted that François Mitterrand was baptized there on 6 May 1917 and his funeral took place there on 11 January 1996.
