Bordered by the Charente and surrounded by vineyards, Jarnac owes its prosperity to the great names in the cognac trade and its fame to the most famous of these local children: François Mitterrand. James Delamain was the first to found a cognac house. Others will follow: Courvoisier, Royer, Hine... The quays have become quiet again after having known the effervescence of the trade and are now dedicated to pleasure boating. It is a pleasure to stroll along the Chaussée des Moulins, towards the lock, in the public garden or on the quays. The Charente invites you to go boating, canoeing, fishing with kingfishers and herons.
