CLAIX GRINDERS
An exceptional site, located in the communes of Claix and Roullet-Saint-Estèphe, with breathtaking views over the plateaux.
It is an exceptional site located on the communes of Claix and Roullet-Saint-Estèphe and dominating the valley of the stream Le Claix. The plateaus from which the view is breathtaking are covered with dry lawns dotted with juniper thickets. A Mediterranean flora has settled there with rare and protected species including the globular of Valence, known in France only here. The faunistic interest is important, no other place in the Charente is home to the pipit rousseline, but it is also historical: ancient pits for the extraction of millstones and ashlar are scattered throughout the site. Information panels are at the main accesses to the site. It is an area managed by the Conservatoire Régional d'Espaces Naturels de Poitou-Charentes.
