A museum dedicated to illustrating the lives and activities of those who "made" the hortillons what they are today.
The Musée des Hortillonnages, set in a wooded park, was founded by Thérèse and René Novak, one of the last market gardeners to cultivate Amiens' 300 hectares of hortillonnages. This passionate couple have assembled a collection of tools and objects linked to this vanishing trade. In 1950, 110 hortillonners worked here; today, only a dozen or so continue the activity. To complete your visit, rent an electrically-powered boat to explore the marshes and discover this living tradition. An immersion not to be missed.
