Town hall housing the pillar room and current mayor's office, where Henry II Plantagenet, King of England, is said to have been born

In the heart of the Cité Plantagenêt, the Town Hall occupies part of the former palace of the Counts of Maine, residence of the Plantagenet family dating back to the 11th century. What a privilege! What a look! The town's citizens and employees are very lucky. The building once housed one of the most important auditoriums in western France: the Salle aux Piliers. It seems that the current mayor's office stands on the very site of the room where Henry II of Plantagenet, King of England and father of the future Richard the Lionheart, was born in 1133. The building has retained its medieval appearance on the Don side. In summer, free tours of the Gros-Pilier tower are offered.

Rien à voir avec l'ancien hôtel de ville mais c'est un très bel édifice chargé d'histoire qu'il est intéressant de découvrir dans le Vieux Mans.
