THE GREETING

On the heights of Villaines-la-Juhel, the remains of this medieval dungeon have been reopened to the public since 2017. This building dates from the eleventh century. The lords of the then Villains are unknown. On the other hand, it was known that these lands became barony in 1566 under Nicolas de Champagne and then Marquisat in 1587 for services rendered to the King by Brandelis II of Champagne. The ruins and lands around the Donjon passed through marriage to the Talleyrand-Périgord in the early nineteenth century. From 1896, some parcels around the Donjon became careers. Finally, in 2007, the area where the Basins of the Donjon are located is transmitted to the municipality that implemented the site of the establishment of a secure platform and access for this scenic site of a cross.
