This village is a crossroads that allows to reach the Coëvrons, the Corniche de Pail, the forest of Sillé-le-Guillaume or the Mancelles Alps. A large commune of the Mayenne with its 3,000 inhabitants, it knows a human occupation from the Gallo-Roman era, at a location on a strategic Roman path that allowed the site to develop to give the city that we know today, centralizing rural pole. It was in 1140, when Mathilde of England had just given Villaines land, in Juhel II of Mayenne, thanks for services rendered, that the seigneury took its name. The fortress built at that time was destroyed during the war with the English. There are only the basins of the dungeon. In the xivth century, Villaines-la-Juhel first formed a chestnut-covered chestnut in Maine county. Then the Champagne family occupied the land until the Revolution. This dynamic and prosperous city, artisanal and agricultural, provided in linen and hemp the factories of Alençon and exported its eggs, butter, poultry and pigs. Many walking and mountain bike tours are available. Visit the Tourist Office for more information.
