In 1772 Joseph de Charette de Briord decided to demolish the old feudal castle on this site. Instead, he built a chapel, dedicated to Saint Germain. The illustrious Charrette family includes the famous chief general of the vendéenne army: François Athanase de Charette de La Contrie. The castle is surrounded by deep moat and a large tower has been added to the northern facade of the old feudal manor. The entrance of the vast court is in the south. The castle is not visiting.
