CENTRE HOSPITALIER UNIVERSITAIRE (CHU)
The CHU is committed to three missions: care, research and teaching. It offers standard and highly specialised medical and surgical services, 24-hour emergency care and alternatives to full hospitalisation. It consists of nine sites. In the city centre, the Hôtel-Dieu has short-stay medical and surgical beds, the emergency centre, the emergency service and the ambulance service. Next door, the mother and child hospital brings together the gynaecology-obstetrics and childcare services. Nearby, near the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Le Tourville building houses services specialising in hygiene and public health prevention. To the south, the Saint-Jacques hospital manages the functional rehabilitation, psychiatry and geriatrics services. Within it, the Maison Pirmil is dedicated to long-term care and follow-up care. To the north, in Saint-Herblain, the North Laennec Hospital is adapted to short medical and surgical stays. The Bellier Hospital has short-stay, follow-up and rehabilitation care and psychiatry beds. It also houses the clinical ethics consultation (CEC). To the north-west, the Beauséjour house has long-term care beds. To the east, in Carquefou, the Seilleraye hospital provides long-term care. New to come: in 2020, construction work began and in April 2026, the new university hospital will open its doors in its entirety on the Ile de Nantes.
