A beautiful château steeped in history, located in Mauves-sur-Loire, with a small exhibition of Vernon memorabilia.
The château de la Droitière and its sublime landscaped park are a magnificent setting! Located only 15 km from Nantes, this historical site saw its history begin in the 16th century with Jean de Malestroit, himself owner of the castle of Oudon and forger... Then traders in the 17th and 18th centuries prospered there thanks to the famous and nevertheless "unfortunate" triangular trade... Then a very famous purchaser, Mathilde Verne, the sister of Jules Verne himself, lived there with her husband Victor Fleury, mayor of Mauves. The coat of arms on the pediment shows an "F" and some symbols of Freemasonry... The shadow of Jules Verne hovers in this 11-hectare park designed with his brother-in-law. Moreover, Mauves-sur-Loire is mentioned in some of the novels of the writer from Nantes. The interior of the castle offers a small exhibition of Verne's souvenirs. In the 20th century, from 1930 to 2000, the site became a sanatorium. Then there were phases of destruction of buildings and years to forget. Finally, since 2014, a new association law 1901, under the leadership of Frederic Débono and his volunteer members, have breathed a new project and what a project! That of rehabilitating the castle which has suffered the aggressions of the past. The tourist and commented visits make us enjoy this marvelous site, and allow us to collect funds and to look for patrons. Frederic tells us with passion and humor the history of the castle. A quick tour inside the castle where we can see the famous guests and above all, visitors will enjoy a total immersion and a one-hour walk commented by the passionate master of the place. Frédéric has undertaken a colossal rehabilitation of the site with the sublime botanical park and its hundreds of rare and majestic trees, which he knows by name and which can be sponsored. The visit of this historical site is worth the trip, if only for the walk within the domain and the view on the Loire valley. The magic happens... Frédéric transmits his passion to us and in turn he forges a "new extraordinary journey", that of rehabilitating this place in his lifetime and this, thanks to all of us!
