THE COLUMN OF HENRI IV
Monuments & Buildings
Recommended
In 1815, the sculptor Frederic Lemot bought a plot of land on the Saint-Gilles hillside, facing the Garenne river, and then had this Henri IV column built on the axis of his villa. The bust carved in a round bump evokes the presence of Henry of Navarre (later Henry IV) in Clisson. The work also refers to the equestrian statue of Henri IV, made by Lemot for the median of the Pont-Neuf in Paris in 1818. The bust of Henri IV, made of limestone, was made by Lemot himself.
