A visit to Base 11/19 offers a unique and entertaining approach to the region's mining heritage. This is one of four mining sites preserved in the Pas-de-Calais region, and offers an almost complete vision of what a coal-mining site was, with the pithead (the plot where the shaft is installed), the slag heaps (the coal tailings) and the mining town where the miners lived. Brave climbers will enjoy an exceptional panorama, with Lens, the Vimy Memorial and other slag heaps in the coalfield as a backdrop.
