LES TROIS DE FORTS DE LE PORTEL PLAGE

Le Portel's heritage is enhanced by its three forts: L'Heurt, Mont de Couppes and Alprech. Built for military purposes, they bear witness to the region's history. Fort de l'Heurt, erected in 1803 by Napoleon, is now in ruins, but remains imposing. Fort du Mont de Couppes, dating from 1550, was used as a cantonment camp and houses a semaphore. Fort d'Alprech, built between 1875 and 1880, was operational during the First World War before being restored in 1999.
