Erected between 1925 and 1936 on land donated by France to Canada, the monument represents Canada, a young nation mourning the loss of its children. Inscribed here are the 11,285 names of Canadian soldiers who fell in battle and have no known grave. A former battlefield, the monument is surrounded by shell holes.
