Château d'Olhain is a precious example of the fortified castles of the northern European plains. Preserved on its original 13th-century plans, you can visit the interior and stroll along the 80 m-wide moat. The building was designed by Jean de Nielles, advisor to John the Fearless, who undertook fortification work in the 15th century. It was confiscated by Charles V and occupied by the Spanish, who blew up two of its towers. Listed as a Monument Historique in 1989, it is one of the finest medieval fortresses in the region.
