LES PORTES DE LA VILLE
Two gateways that once encircled Villeneuve-sur-Lot, remarkable historic sites built in the century.
Of the seven gates that once guarded Villeneuve-sur-Lot, two still stand guard over the town center: the Porte de Paris and the Porte de Pujols, both built in the 14th century. The others disappeared in the 17th century, under Mazarin in the midst of the Fronde. These imposing square towers with machicolations are a reminder of their defensive role. Although similar in appearance, they reveal delicate differences to the curious eye. Listed as historic monuments, they tell the story of a whole part of Villeneuve's history. A delightful detour.
