The Jesuit library in Valenciennes houses a vast vaulted room that preserves the oldest text in French.

Thanks to the collections of the Simone Veil multimedia library, we can explore twelve centuries of history, from parchment scrolls to the digital age. Restored to its original state, the Jesuit library is housed in magnificent buildings that have remained unchanged since 1740. Its vast vaulted hall preserves its treasure: the Cantilène de sainte Eulalie, composed around 880. It is the oldest known text in the French language.

C'est une belle bibliothèque cela n'a aucun doute,le personnel est souriant et les lieux sont intéressants .le bémol,c'est que je trouve que le sous sol est un peu vide dans sa variété d'ouvrages , certains livres que je cherchais pour le travail, n'était pas présent et dans certains rayonnage comme celui des sciences sociales n'est pas très garnie .j'en suis resté un peu sur ma faim,c'est dommage ,ça m'aurait évité de faire des kilomètres vers lille

Super Médiathèque, un bel espace et des propositions intéressantes proposées par un personnel sympathique et efficace!

Le seul bémol? À Noël, ils ferment pendant toute une semaine, presque 10 jours fermés… On peut le comprendre pour un lieu privé mais pas pour un service public… Du coup, on se déplacera aux médiathèques limitrophes pour bosser ce Noël.
