The Jesuit library in Valenciennes houses a vast vaulted room that preserves the oldest text in French.
Thanks to the collections of the Simone Veil Library, we can explore twelve centuries of history, from the parchment scroll to the digital age. Restored to its original state, the Jesuit library is located in one of the most beautiful buildings in France, having remained unchanged since 1740. Its treasure is preserved in its vast vaulted room: the Cantilène de sainte Eulalie, the oldest text in the French language known to this day.
