The Fort des Dunes is an example of the military architecture designed by General Séré de Rivières to reinforce the French defensive system. Built in 1878 to protect Dunkirk and its port, its barracks were designed to house 450 soldiers. Built of sand bricks and reaching a height of 27 m, the fort finds a natural setting in the dunes. J'apprécie beaucoup les efforts déployés pour la restauration du site, qui constitue un lieu de mémoire essentiel.
Cependant, l'installation de stands de tirs ludiques dans les remblais, là même où des résistants ont été exécutés, me semble profondément inappropriée.
Après une visite marquée par des témoignages poignants, il est particulièrement dérangeant d'entendre des tirs de loisir en sortant. Cela nuit au recueillement que ce lieu appelle naturellement.
Übrigens gibt es einen kleinen, aber an diesem Tag völlig ausreichenden Parkplatz in unmittelbarer Nähe des Eingangs. Unter "Anreise" gibt die Homepage hierauf keinen Hinweis. Wir konnten keinen Parkautomaten entdecken und hatten auch keinen Strafzettel. Darum vermuten wir mal, dass das Parken dort kostenlos ist. :-)
