France's leading radio station, RTL, was born in the inter-war period (1933). Information, sport, culture, and society are the main components of its program, which also leaves plenty of room for entertainment, with emblematic shows such as "Les grosses têtes", born in 1977 (hosted for 34 years by Philippe Bouvard, then taken over by Laurent Ruquier in 2014), or the musical programs of Georges Lang, on the air since 1971. RTL's Lille bureau provides news coverage for the Hauts-de-France and border Belgium.
