LA GROTTE D'ERCHIN
A small replica of the Massabielle grotto in Lourdes, closely linked to Abbé Leruste, a not-to-be-missed site during a walk in Erchin
While out walking, you may come across a small replica of the Massabielle grotto in Lourdes! It's been part of the life of the commune for over 70 years. It was built in just three months, in 1952, by village volunteers. This gesture of devotion followed the troubled times of the two world wars. It is also closely linked to Abbé Leruste, who used to take a group of pilgrims to Lourdes every year. The statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint Bernadette come from there, as do some of the stones!
