Among the museum's permanent collections, there is an important archaeological collection from the High Middle Ages: ceramics, Merovingian beads... And even a rare Viking sword. The museum also exhibits a part of the industrial history of the city. Evidence of the industrial and mining era can be seen in the paintings of Lucien Jonas or Boris Talitzky, while a room is devoted to the miner poet Jules Mousseron, creator of the character Cafougnette.
