THE STRONGHOLD OF THE FORGES

The Bastion des Forges was built by Emperor Charles V, who decided to leave his mark. Vauban added his own personal touch, underground rooms for the forges and, later, powder magazines were added to the fortifications. After its dismantling in the 19th century, all that remains of the bastion is the imposing building visible from the bridge. Since May 2016, they have been listed as historical monuments.
