This limestone castle overlooks the Arratz river. The Simon de Montfort tower reminds us that the fief was bequeathed by the Count to Eudes de Montaud in 1215. The castle combines medieval architecture with its Gothic entrance châtelet and the Renaissance style with its wing pierced with mullioned windows, opening onto the courtyard through a geminated door. A spiral staircase without a core, a remarkable technical feat, leads you to the vast guard room. The terraced garden was redesigned in the 19th century. Themed exhibitions and garden walks are organised.

Nous avions fait 100km pour venir visiter ce château et nous étions 6 adultes et rien n’indiquait ( ni sur internet ni sur l’affiche) la fermeture du château ainsi que les horaires des visites.Vous comprenez donc notre déception sur l’organisation qui semblait prise avec une grande légèreté !
Renseignez vous avant d’aller le visiter . Par contre si vous téléphonez personne ne vous répond.
belle exposition de tapisseries avec beaucoup d'informations.
la sympathique réceptionniste, pour plus d'informations, parle également anglais.
Malheureusement, il n'est pas possible de boire du café/thé, même pas dans le village, mais à 7 km, à St. Clar.
