LA FRESQUE HISTORIQUE
Key dates in Marmande's history during the Middle Ages and Renaissance are depicted on a large fresco, a superb work of art.
Completed in 1994, this impressive fresco is several metres high and several metres long, made up of 600,000 tesserae. It adorns a section of the ramparts on the boulevard Richard Cœur de Lion, bordering the plaine de la Filhole. In a style inspired by medieval imagery, it accurately retraces centuries of history, from the Council of Granon in 673 to the siege of Marmande in the 16th century by Henri de Navarre, whose portrait closes the work. To better appreciate it, stand on the sidewalk opposite! It's well worth the detour.
