WORLD CENTER FOR PEACE, FREEDOM AND HUMAN RIGHTS
Association structure with an exhibition space in Verdun, presenting a permanent exhibition entitled "From War to Peace"
Installed in the superb episcopal palace since 1994, the World Center for Peace, Liberties and Human Rights is a place of exchange, reflection and meeting. Its mission: to try to answer the question of the appearance of wars and the means to be implemented to maintain a durable peace. The program is divided into two permanent sections: Freedom, Human Rights, European Conflicts and European History. Temporary exhibitions are regularly organized. In 2022, for example: "Drôles de Paix" (Funny Peace), which exhibits more than 200 gadgets used by spies during the Cold War, "Trésors de diplomatie" (Treasures of Diplomacy), which presents various exceptional gifts received by the Presidents of the French Republic, as well as a new module devoted to the war in Ukraine, the first of its kind to be organized with the Ukrainian resistance. A multitude of capsule events animate the place permanently. The very rich store brings together more than 300 references (books, comics, youth). Finally, the 18th century gardens offer, in addition to a superb view of the city of Verdun, a free citizen space. A section of the Berlin Wall can be seen there. A place of meditation for some, a curiosity for others, the World Peace Center does not leave anyone indifferent. Adjacent to the cathedral and installed in the episcopal palace, it is remarkable as much for its 18th century architecture as for its symbol. A must see.
