A symbol of the heroism of the First World War poilus at Vaux-devant-Damloup, which can still be visited on foot today.

Built between 1881 and 1884, Fort de Vaux is an emblematic site of the Battle of Verdun. In 1916, it was subjected to a violent siege by the German army. For days, the 250 French soldiers bravely withstood enemy assaults, despite incessant bombardment, gas and flamethrowers. On June 7, 1916, after a slow agony, overcome by thirst, the defenders surrendered Vaux on the orders of Commandant Raynal. A poignant site of remembrance, a visit to Vaux helps visitors understand the intensity of the fighting and pays tribute to the courage of the Poilus.

Important First World War site where you can have a fascinating visit inside the fort and walk the shell damaged superstructure above.

Chargé d'histoire, mais Déçue par le manque de visibilité. En effet visite très rapide, lieu pas adapté a l'accueil du public . Exposition a revoir et vieillotte
