Things to see and do Ligny-En-Barrois

The old church having been destroyed in 1544 by Charles V's troops, a new Gothic building was built, showing Renaissance influences. The Saint-Augustin portal with twisted columns dates back to 1633. It houses various remarkable works: Ligier Richier's Le Tombeau du maréchal du Luxembourg, a Pietà of Saint-Mihiel's workshops where pieces, dice and nails are carved, symbolizing Christ's passion, a pulpit that has been magnificently preserved and finally the painting on silk and gilded copper that gives its name to the church and makes the city proud since this painting made in the 13th century is full of history (s)... to discover!

Built in 1865, this building with geometric shapes was funded largely by the upper mother of the hospice. A place of care for children at the lowest age, it was ceded to the city and became a nursery school. The arms of the Marshal of Luxembourg are carved on one side of the building and those of Saint Charles Borromeo on the other side. The inscription «Let me come to the small children» is on the front of the entrance. It currently houses the municipal library, an exhibition room and the tourist office.

The order of the Ursulines was established in the town of Ligny-en-Barrois in 1643. The nuns settled rue Bayard four years later. In 1647, the monastery increases with new residence, rue de Strasbourg, serving boarding school and is the main entrance. This vaulted passage was built to link the boarding school to the convent. It is the remote girls of "impurezas of the world".
