The gateway to the region via the RN4, Ligny-en-Barrois is the capital of the optics industry, with the Essilor factory established here in 1867. Ligny-en-Barrois has been awarded the "Village étape" label for its rich heritage, and is a verdant stopover on the banks of the Ornain river and the Marne-Rhine canal.
