Froideterre's poignant account of the Great War, set in Bras-sur-Meuse.
Leaving Douaumont, in the direction of Verdun, one reaches the Froideterre fortress by a small road. Built in 1888, this infantry post was enlarged in 1904: shelters, barracks, two observation posts, a Bourges casemate and a rotating turret equipped with two cannons were added. During the Great War, it housed 200 soldiers. In June 1916, the German army bombed the site before going on the offensive: several confrontations followed but the fortification stopped the enemy progression. The marks of these terrible days are still visible.
