THE HOTEL OF SALM
This large residence from 1716 is a private mansion built to replace an old house belonging to the Salm family, whose name it has kept. The three-storey facade, made of Savonnières stone, is topped by a sculpted balustrade, exceptional in Bar-le-Duc for a private building, and decorated with flower baskets and fire pots. The dice on which they rest form bays of five, seven or eight balusters. The bays are topped by different keystones on each floor. In the 18th century, this residence belonged to the de La Morre family, who had provided three generations of presidents to the Barrois Chamber of Accounts. Over the centuries, the owners would succeed one another: a boarding school for young people would for example become their home in the 19th century. The complex was restored and divided at the beginning of the 21st century and today there are several dwellings.
