A museum offering a plunge into distant waters, with some sixty freshwater and tropical seawater aquariums...
The MAN is a must-see for Nancy residents, visiting tourists and those curious about nature. Inaugurated in 1930, it now offers an escapade into distant waters, with some sixty freshwater, tropical or temperate seawater, or brackish water aquariums housing no fewer than 220 aquatic species. Seahorses, clownfish, balloonfish or trumpetfish, eels, rays and flying scorpionfish, as well as crustaceans, molluscs and plants, from the waters of America, Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the Caribbean are all represented. Upstairs, a zoological gallery displays some 600 specimens from the heritage collections. Butterflies, insects, mammals and the great shark or giant squid - naturalized and fossilized animals that will take you on a journey through historical eras and periods. There are also temporary exhibitions for young and old, lectures on nature and fun workshops. Elementary schoolchildren can try their hand at reconstructing a complete food chain in the zoology gallery. Kindergarteners will discover five animals, each inhabiting one of the continents explored, and learn about the diversity of shapes and colors of animal species typical of a coral reef. The Muséum-Aquarium also occasionally opens its doors in the evening, for unusual and amusing tours, such as the Horror Show with its exploration of the museum by torchlight. Free admission on the first Sunday of the month and reduced admission after 5pm.
