The Désilles Memorial is France's oldest war memorial. This classical-style triumphal arch was erected between 1782 and 1784. Over 10 metres high, the Porte Désilles is adorned with numerous details, including bas-reliefs commemorating the Treaty of Versailles. It also depicts the Battle of Nancy in 1477. A historic monument, this gate is a tribute to the people of Nancy who died for American independence during the Battle of Yorktown. It bears the name of Lieutenant Désilles, killed during the "Nancy Affair".
