Archaeological crypt considered by archaeologists to be a civil basilica in Dax.

The archaeological crypt, which dates back to the 1st or 2nd century AD, is considered by archaeologists to be a civil basilica, a public meeting place that could have housed a variety of activities, such as banking and judicial affairs. It measured 43 m long by 27 m wide, and was flanked by two adjoining rooms. Only the building's foundations are well preserved. The building symbolizes Rome's political and religious power. Currently closed for renovation, the archaeological crypt is due to reopen in 2024. Stay tuned!
