Château de Jarny hosts local environmental associations for educational events.
Château de Moncel dates back to the 12th century. At that time, it included a drawbridge, moats and ditches. In the 19th century, it became an elegant quadrangular manor house, with beautiful 4-slope slate roofs. The wings, on the other hand, are relatively recent, dating from 1905. The Vieux Colombier and former outbuildings surround the estate. During the First World War, Château de Moncel was occupied by the Germans and transformed into a military headquarters. Kaiser Wilhelm II also stayed here. Since 1980, the château and its 17-hectare park have been managed by the municipality of Jarny. In 2011, the site took on a decidedly ecological hue: Château de Moncel is now home to the Maison de l'Environnement. The Maison de l'Environnement is home to local environmental associations. Throughout the year, educational events are organized to raise environmental awareness. As for the park, classified as a "Jardin de France", it serves as a refuge for the LPO, the French League for the Protection of Birds. Several highlights take place in Moncel park throughout the year: Summer Sundays at Moncel from mid-July to mid-August, the Fête de la Nature on the1st Sunday in September from 10am to 7pm. We recommend a stroll through the park as soon as spring arrives. Children will love the play areas, while adults will enjoy the picturesque bucolic setting by one of the ponds.
