Full of history, Jarny is an old village that became a town thanks to the arrival of the railway, the establishment of the station and in 1869 the construction of the Châlons-Metz line, then thanks to the exploitation of two iron mines in the 20th century. The small industries then disappeared and gave way in the 1910s to new activities: a sugar factory, a brewery, a cardboard factory, an electric power station, a metal construction company, etc. Five neighbourhoods thus took shape: Moulinelle, Droitaumont (former mining estates), the town centre, the station and the housing estates. Even though the area suffered from the closure of the mining sites and the crisis in the industry, it was able to renew itself and retain its attractiveness. Jarny now has 8,600 inhabitants and the town is modern and attractive. Its geographical location is advantageous, close to the Belgian, German and Luxembourg borders, between Metz and Verdun on the one hand, and Nancy and Longwy on the other, which means that it is served by the A4 and the A31. It is also an important commercial centre with many shops and companies, and an active centre for schools, sports and culture. At the gateway to the Lorraine Regional Nature Park, Jarny is a green town, surrounded by three rivers, and has a marsh classified as a sensitive natural area. The park of the castle of Moncel is classified "Jardin de France" and many footpaths will allow you to immerse yourself in this beautiful nature. Finally, it stands out for its heritage, between modernity and history
