The student's mutual service manages student social security throughout French territory. It is a compulsory regime that is simultaneously attached to the first entry in a higher education institution. Except if you work more than 60 hours per month or 120 hours per quarter. It pays from 20 years, except for the fellows. To proceed with registration, the Social Security number is required. Once the formality is completed you will receive your vital card by mail. The advantage with LMDE is that the card is valid in all departments (in case you change academy). LMDE also proposes additional (optional) health supplements: of 5 € per month to cover only "hard blows" at 45 € per month for total guarantee (dental, vaccinations, psychiatry, gynaecology, hospitalization, dépassements, care abroad).
