MUSEUM OF ART AND ARCHAEOLOGY
Museum with collections of natural history, archaeology, furniture, paintings, and sculptures
The Museum of Art and Archaeology occupies a beautiful 17th century mansion that was once inhabited by senators. It houses a very rich natural history collection, as well as archaeological objects, furniture, paintings and sculptures, and Asian art. Children will love the family of stuffed foxes, the wolf, the polar bear, the lion, the skeleton of a hippopotamus... They will also discover an Egyptian mummy and Gallo-Roman objects. Adults will undoubtedly be more sensitive to Limousin enamels, elegant Louis XVI or Empire furniture, paintings from the School of Crozant (Guillaumin, Maillaud, Madeline, Detroy), sculptures by Rodin, Camille Claudel, Anne Quinquaud and Carpeaux, as well as Ming vases. Take the time to enjoy the imposing resinous botanical garden surrounding the museum. The museum is currently under construction and is scheduled to reopen in 2022.
