Guéret was born in 690, around a monastery. In 1406, the city obtained a charter of franchise, before becoming, in 1514, the capital of the county of La Marche. It is from this period that the castle of Moneyroux dates, a sublime building which is now the headquarters of the departmental council. Today, Guéret is the prefecture of the Creuse. As it has no historical sites, the city is resolutely oriented towards green tourism. For this, the mountains of Guéret and the lake of Courtille are among the most often proposed nature destinations. In addition, there are two key attractions: the animal park Les loups de Chabrières and the Giant Plant Labyrinth.
