TAPESTRY WORKSHOP-MUSEUM
Workshop-museum of tapestry cartoons, housing a place of exhibition, restoration and conservation to visit in Aubusson
The châtelet de la Terrade, the former grant house on the banks of the Creuse, is no longer the only place where treasures such as tapestry boxes are kept. A "pivot building" also dating from the 17th century has been associated with it for the creation in September 2012 of a tapestry cardboard workshop-museum. These buildings house six rooms where, for one hour, the story of the cardboard, an essential working tool for tapestry making, is told. You can admire pieces from the 18th century or contemporary, small or huge, murals or pieces cut out to make armchairs. The support, which can also be an oil on canvas or a tracing paper, is approached from every angle. The visitor enters a place of exhibition but also of restoration and conservation. Chantal Chirac, an antique dealer by training, knows all the subtleties to the point of transforming these working tools into true works of art. The site also houses a temporary exhibition room. You can see felt creations, sculptures...
