A giant wave breaking over the Garonne a few times a year: perhaps you've heard of the tidal bore, a natural phenomenon that occurs when the rising tide meets the falling current of a river or estuary. In the Gironde, it's a particularly impressive phenomenon, a delight for surfers and spectators alike. There are several places to observe it. The banks of Langoiran or Cadillac, the bridge at Cubzac-les-Ponts, even the quays of Bordeaux... But the best spot is the little port of Saint-Pardon, in the commune of Vayres.
