The Biodiversarium presents the marine and terrestrial biodiversity of the Pyrenees-Orientales, particularly that of the Côte Vermeille. The Biodiversarium is the association of the Aquarium of Banyuls-sur-Mer and the Mediterranean Garden of Mas de la Serre. The aquarium, created in 1885 by the biologist Henri de Lacaze Duthiers, was the first Mediterranean aquarium open to the public. It has the particularity of presenting only local species. Sea breams and groupers evolve in natural settings identical to those found on the rocky coast. But the aquarium is also - and above all - a showcase for the Arago laboratory. This site has become one of the largest European centres for marine biology. Nearly 180 researchers and technicians work there on a permanent basis, and you will have the opportunity to see them thanks to laboratories visible to the public. You may also have the opportunity to see one of the Arago laboratory's ships in one of the many creeks of the marine reserve. Specific workshops and activities are organised for schoolchildren from nursery to high school. As an extension of the visit to the aquarium, the Mediterranean Garden of the Mas de la Serre, located on the heights of Banyuls, reconciles walking and relaxing and discovering and observing the varied flora of the coast on a 3 hectare area. J’ai visité le Biodiversarium avec mes deux enfants de 10 et 13 ans, et nous avons passé un excellent moment.
Nous avons appris plein de choses.
Mention spéciale pour la découverte en laboratoire : une animation à la fois passionnante et pédagogique, menée par un animateur vraiment investi et à l’écoute des enfants.

Ensuite, le contenu de la visite est tout aussi décevant : le nombre de poissons est ridiculement faible. On fait le tour en quelques minutes à peine, sans réelle diversité ni mise en valeur des espèces. Pour un lieu qui prétend sensibiliser à la vie marine, c’est franchement honteux.
Je ne recommande pas cette visite, surtout au vu du prix demandé. Une grosse déception.
