The Jurade, Saint-Émilion's wine brotherhood, traces its origins back to 1199. After falling into oblivion, the brotherhood was revived in 1948 by a handful of winegrowers and became the ambassador of Saint-Émilion wines. Every September, the brotherhood organizes the Ban des vendanges from the top of the Tour du Roy. The city then sees the jurats parade past in their ancestral red robes, and witnesses the enthronement of celebrities in the collegiate church. A great moment in the life of Saint-Émilion.
