This 80,000-hectare territory of contrasts is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, from vineyards and garrigue to sea and lakes, and represents one of the last great preserved natural sites in France. Its ponds are classified as a "wetland of international importance". The park boasts 42 km of coastline, 500 km of hiking trails, 352 bird species, 2,000 plant species and 9,230 ha of listed sites: Massif de la Clape and Fontfroide, Gouffre de l'Œil doux (closed in summer due to fire risk).
